Fireworks. Hot dogs. Red, white, and blue. The Fourth of July holiday celebrates the moment the Declaration of Independence was passed by the Continental Congress in 1776 — and it also celebrates community. The day is a chance to come together to honor our freedom, enjoy a meal together, and watch a spectacle of lights in the sky. In Prince George’s, you can do that in some of the most special ways possible.
Celebrate the holiday with one of these six Prince George’s events:
- Listen to the patriotic sounds of the United States Airforce Band Airmen of Note during the July 4 showing of its Salute the Sunset Concert Series. Pack a blanket and a picnic to enjoy the evening show with your loved ones at the Spirit Park Amphitheater.
- Enjoy the spectacle at the Bladensburg Fireworks Independence Day Celebration. Look out for details closer to the date, but in the past, the show took place at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park, and there has also been music, food trucks, and family-friendly activities.
- Experience a day of excitement at Six Flags America in Bowie during the weekend of July 4. In the past, the event has featured a live DJ, late-night hours, discount passes, and evening fireworks.
- Bring the kids to the National Harbor for Kids Day on July 2. “Fitness Fun with Onelife Fitness” will feature a nature scavenger hunt, a musical morning with the U.S. Army Band, and a performance of “Alice in Wonderland.”
- Watch the fireworks show at Greenbelt’s Buddy Attick Lake Park at around 9 p.m. Bring chairs, a blanket, snacks, and your friends to enjoy the lights in the sky together. Keep an eye out for details.
- Watch a showing of A League of Their Own at the National Harbor waterfront. Pack a picnic or get dinner from one of the many restaurants nearby, then enjoy this free film under the stars.
Plan a sunny daytime picnic in Prince George’s at one of these spots.
