It’s almost time for the kids to head back to school, and that means it’s the perfect time for a shopping spree. There’s plenty of time to get everything your family needs for this next school year, and there are plenty of options in Prince George’s to make that happen. The Tanger National Harbor outlets are a wonderful place to start.

One more thing that makes this season the best one for shopping: Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week. From August 9–15, the state is waiving its 6% sales tax on any qualifying article of clothing or footwear priced $100 or less, along with the first $40 of a backpack purchase.

Follow this shopping itinerary to make the most of the event:

Brunch: Visit MGM National Harbor for brunch at Bread + Butter. The quick-service restaurant offers all the quintessential breakfast selections: eggs, waffles, sausages, potatoes, toast, and breakfast sandwiches. You’ll be able to get your coffee and tea fix at the same time, so you’ll be well fueled for your day of browsing and purchasing.

Shop: You can get most of your shopping done at the Tanger National Harbor outlets. The H&M, Old Navy, Levi's, Gap, Lacoste, The Children’s Place, and Columbia stores have fantastic options for children’s clothing. Look for athletic wear and shoes at the Nike, Skechers, Adidas, Under Armor, Puma, and New Balance shops.

Lunch: Get a classic burger, fries, and milkshake at Johnny Rockets to fuel your shopping day. If a burger isn’t your style, try the chicken sandwich, grilled cheese sandwich, or crispy chicken club salad. The kids can enjoy hot dogs, chicken strips, and kid-sized shakes.

Stroll: Spend some time at Oxon Cove Park & Oxon Hill Farm, where the region's history is protected through conservation, hands-on programming, and environmental stewardship. Relax on a quiet walk through the pastures or check the calendar for ranger programming, like chicken feedings or tractor rides. The kids can become Junior Rangers by completing an activity book and returning it to the ranger for a badge, certificate, and patch.

Stay: Book a room at Harborside Hotel, just minutes from the outlet shops. These rooms are modern, the bedding is luxurious, and the amenities are strong. Not only is the hotel nearby to stores, but it also offers a free shuttle van to take you there. It doesn’t get more convenient than that. Add free Wi-Fi, pet-friendly spaces, and complimentary parking, and you’ve got everything you need in a National Harbor hotel.

Swing: Make a reservation at TopGolf in Oxon Hill, where you can practice your golf skills, play digital golf games, and have a meal. You can order food at your private space or head up to the rooftop terrace after you play. Either way, you’ll have some fun, blow off some steam, and eat something delicious.
