Fall is all about change, from the colorful foliage to the crunchy leaves to the cool breezes. This seasonal shift brings with it fall festivals, pumpkin patches, autumn hikes, and opportunities to embrace the beauty and joy of these changes. In Prince George’s, we’re here for all of it. You can hike a lake trail, visit a farmers’ market, take a hayride at a fall celebration, drink an autumn brew on a lively patio, and so much more.

To embrace the season yourself, try out one (or all!) of these 10 Prince George’s fall activities:

  1. Head to Montpelier Farms for its annual fall festival. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, visitors of all ages — along with their pups — can explore the seven-acre corn maze, take a hayride, play barnyard basketball, finish a scavenger hunt, and so much more. Don’t forget to choose a few pumpkins from the patch and grab a funnel cake before you leave.

  2. Take the kids to visit a real farm. Old Maryland Farm gives visitors a closer look at regional agriculture, farm animals, and gardening — and it also happens to be an excellent spot for some fall family photos. Don’t miss the family farm tours, story and craft times, farm science sessions, and its official Fall Festival.

  3. Bring home a basket of fall vegetables from the Riverdale Park Farmers Market. On Thursday afternoons, vendors head to Rhode Island Avenue to sell their produce and products. Stop by to grab fall fruits, vegetables, and treats.

  4. Hop on a horse and explore the trails in Prince George’s with Piscataway Trails in Clinton. Drop by the stables on the weekends between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to saddle up for an hour-long ride, and you’re sure to enjoy some fall colors during the adventure. Don’t worry about booking ahead, because these trips are walk-in only.

  5. Enjoy a seasonal brew from Denizens Brewing Co. in Riverdale Park. This team is dedicated to homegrown excellence, and all the beer is brewed in Maryland. Check the menu, which is also packed with house-made snacks and meals meant to pair with the beer, to see which brews will hit the taproom in the fall.

  6. Walk or bike the trails along this 38-acre lake at Lake Artemesia in Berwyn Heights to enjoy the fall colors reflecting off the water. You can reach the park through the Paint Branch Trail, and then you’ll be free to explore the aquatic gardens as the leaves change.

  7. Take a trip to Queen Anne Farm in Mitchellville for an authentic pumpkin patch experience. Wander through the pumpkin fields, check out the giant gourds, see the brightly colored mums, visit the Pumpkin House for a family photo, and pick up a carving kit. The farm is also a fantastic spot to shop for fall decor, so drop by for everything you need to boost your front porch game.

  8. Discover the wonders of the natural world at the Clearwater Nature Center in Clinton’s Cosca Regional Park. Park naturalists share environmental education through seasonal gardens, live animal exhibits, and more. The center serves as the perfect starting point to explore the 800-acre park and experience all of its fall changes. Plus, if you have a group of 10 or more, you can book a private adventure.

  9. Beautify your home and garden with the help of the Patuxent Nursery in Bowie. Check out the calendar for helpful events or learn from the experts about the fall plants that would work best for your environment.

  10. Get up close and personal with rescued horses and other farm animals at The Big Purple Barn in Bowie. The sanctuary rescues animals in need, and you can tour the barn, support their work, learn about farm animals, join a pony play date, or volunteer.
